Programs

Short Track

Beginner

This program is for skaters who are 6 and up. Participants must be able to skate unassisted with basic skating skills, including gliding and stopping on skates.

This program is focused on the basic foundation of speed skating, ensuring the development of proper speed skating techniques.

All skaters are encouraged to participate in the club race nights and the Canmore meet in December (Canmore Ice Racing Challenge – CIRC.)

2023-2024 Practice Times:

Sundays from  5:30 pm to 6:45 pm

Wednesdays from 5:15 pm to 6:20 pm

Please note:

1. Parents are required to stay at the arena during the sessions when their child is skating, in order to provide rink-side support and in case of emergency.

2. All our practices require safety mats. Placement during the beginner short track practices and removal from the ice at the end of the Advanced or Masters practices will be done during each session. We kindly request help from parents to put the mats on the ice at the beginning of the sessions.

We kindly request help from parents to take the mats off the ice at the end of the sessions.

RACE FUND

The race fund is for skaters that do provincial level racing. Skaters are not charged coaching costs for any meets in Canmore.

The club will cover 50% of the coaching cost, while the race fund covers the remaining 50%. This allows us to send our Coach to competitions around the province.  This fund is to be calculated at the end of the season for each skater that attended a competition.  Each skater will be invoiced according to the number of days they attended competitions. A rule of thumb to estimate your race fund contribution – if a skater attends all the competitions (approx. 10-12 race days) – the cost to the skater would be about $350 (2019-2020 pricing.)
