Early Season Camp

Annual Canmore Labour Day Camp

Each year the Banff/Canmore Speed Skating Club runs an early-season camp over the long weekend at the end of August (Labour Day weekend).

When: Labour Day weekend (late August / early September), every year
Where: Canmore Recreation Centre – 1900 8 Ave
Who: Skaters age 9 and over with previous speed skating experience (at least one year). Racing experience is not required.

This camp focuses on sound fundamentals and gives skaters a solid base to build their season from. Registration numbers determine the number of groups.

Each group typically has two ice sessions per day, plus daily off-ice and/or classroom sessions. Parent volunteers help with mats and water buckets, and parents of younger skaters may be asked to assist in the change rooms around ice sessions.

Accommodations

Labour Day weekend is peak tourist season in Canmore. If you need lodging, book campsites or hotels early. Nearby campgrounds include Bow River Campground, Wapiti Campground, and Three Sisters Campground. Always double-check cancellation policies.
